Mind-Builders develops skills in a variety of art forms for children, teens and adults while nurturing self-esteem, building character and cultivating an appreciation of the diverse cultures within our Bronx community.
Mind-Builders is committed to making its arts programs accessible to all: providing financial aid, ensuring that the facility is 100% ADA compliant, and training our teachers to work with youth of various skill levels and learning styles. We believe that the discipline of art is a powerful and enlivening experience for all!
Dance – Weekly group classes in African, Afrobeats, Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Modern, Praise Dance, and Tap for students ages 3.5-adult. Free weekly Adult Fit4Life classes include Soca, Stretch, Yoga and Zumba.
Music – Weekly group and private classes for students ages 4-adult in bass, clarinet, drum- African and set, flute, piano, keyboard, music theory, recorder, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, violin/Suzuki violin and voice.
Martial Arts – Weekly Karate classes in Goju Ryu Karate for students ages 5-18.
Positive Youth Troupe Theater – PYT’s staying power is its ability to “keep it real,” and deliver a positive message to youth, ages 14-26, through creative spirit, attitude, energy, and movement. In PYT, young people get their start on the stage while acquiring life skills. This free program begins annually in November.
Arts Passage Xpress – Mind-Builders "Arts Passage XPress Program" provides individual coaching and small group workshop training for youth ages 12 - 18 in visual arts, theater, and hip-hop theatre/spoken word. This is a free program. Supplies are provided.
Dr. Beverly J. Robinson Community Folk Culture– Free folk culture research training program for students ages 14-21. Students apply for this program in late spring. Program takes place 3 days/week during summer vacation. Students receive a stipend.
Pre-K – Under contract with the NYC Dept. of Education, Mind-Builders offers free full-day Pre-K to 18 children Monday-Friday 8:30 am - 2:50 pm from September to June. This program is currently a hybrid remote and in-person model.
Arts In Education – Mind-Builders contracts with schools and after-school programs to provide music and dance programs online, at their site or at the Mind-Builders site.
