"Experiencing a new culture is like entering a whole new world of sights, sounds, smells, and textures."

Folk Culture Final Presentation: “Remembering Where We Come From: Family, Food, and Traditions”

Friday, April 19, 2024

From November through April, the Dr. Beverly J. Robinson Community Folk Culture Program interns learned about African Diaspora cultures and experiences around the world and in their communities through an exploration of foodways.

From gardening, recipes, and cooking methods and adaptations, the interns collected the special knowledge from several tradition bearers in their families and communities to broaden their understanding of how food connects us through memories, traditions, and celebrations to the Diaspora.

Special Guest Tradition-Bearer: Marjorie Florestal, Haitian-American writer, author, storyteller

Space is limited, please RSVP below.
