Production Corps Lead (Contractor)
$40 per hour, 220 hours

Overview
This is a contractor position running from June 2025 through September 2025, with the possibility of additional programmatic opportunities in the fall/spring season.
This July, Mind-Builders' youth work experience and training program Production Corps, returns for its second summer season. This role is intended to act as the Production Corps Program Advisor and oversee the development and implementation of the program curriculum and scope and sequence, while engaging participating students in weekly support and learning exercises.
The summer season of Production Corps is intended as an intensive and immersive training program for New York City youth, ages 16-21, offering insights and learning opportunities in various areas of stage production and the creative development process that takes place “behind the scenes, and beyond the stage”. The program will run for five hours a day (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) from July 7 – August 15, 2025, and will offer dynamic experiences including:
- workshops and focused training in select production areas with visiting facilitators
- site visits/tours to presenting organizations and performing arts venues
- opportunities to meet and network with production professionals
- hands-on work experience, offering on-site logistics and production support at Mind-Builders
- development of a student led production at season’s end
Students will be engaged in and explore various production areas throughout the summer including:
- Stage production logistics and production management
- Stage production management
- Audio, lighting, visuals/multimedia technology and design
- Props, costume and set design
- Safety and Front of House
The Production Corps Lead will be the principal liaison to participating students, invited facilitators, and Mind-Builders staff. They will be responsible for shepherding students’ learning experience throughout the summer, including leading their program orientation and debrief, and teaching various aspects of production, from pre-production planning, production execution, and post-production. The Lead will also be responsible for reaffirming skills and information provided to students by guest facilitators and during site visits.
The Lead will work with the AED for Programming and Productions, the MB Program Coordinator, and other members of the Programming/Production team. This is a hybrid role, with expectations to be onsite and/or in the field with students during Production Corps class times (M, W, F 10am – 5pm).
This opportunity implies roughly 220 hours of work between June 1, 2025 and September 5, 2025 and is inclusive of the following responsibilities:
- Meet weekly with AED for Programs and Productions
- Develop a unit plan in alignment with the summer season’s scope and sequence, ensuring cohesive and cumulative learning for participating students.
- Coordinate with program facilitators and partners for visiting sessions and field trips, overseeing field trip logistics, contracting, and focus of each training session/workshop and field trip.
- Inform and assign and oversee student work schedules and tasks for onsite work at Mind-Builders, supporting their weekly assignments and summer end event planning meetings.
- Facilitate/support production meetings for the program’s final event.
- Provide advisement to students, helping inform ideas for final project.
- Submit material/supply requests and purchases and set up classroom/learning spaces on a weekly basis.
- Evaluate students at the end of season with supportive recommendations about career paths in the arts or production.
- Other duties supporting program management and a successful summer experience for students and partner sites/facilitators.
Desired qualifications
Successful candidates should have:
- 3-5 years working with youth (ages 13-21) in a leadership or instructional role
- 3 years' experience in production work, with demonstrated skills sets and knowledge bases in at least three of the following: sound design, event planning, lighting design, line production, stagehand, scenic design, costuming, production management
- Experience with lesson planning and curriculum development
- A passion for empowering youth
- Familiarity with the NYC arts and cultural landscape, with familiarity on stage productions/performances
