DANCE

The Dance Department offers high quality instruction in a variety of movement styles and techniques both for students who want to explore dance just for personal enjoyment, and those who want to prepare for a career in dance.

Fundamentally, the mind, body and soul are simultaneously developed to bring each individual to the achievement of personal and professional goals.

Enrollment

Enrollment in group dance classes averages between 10 to 12
students in order to promote more individual attention and
sustained progress. Classes of 60 to 90 minute duration include the following overall disciplines:

• Tap • Ballet • Adult Yoga
• Modern/Jazz • West African • Hip-Hop • Salsa/Mambo

• Dance Fundamentals

Dance Fundamentals (ages 3-5) provides an introduction to
dance where young students become aware of the use of space,
music, props and their bodies to explore the boundlessness of their imaginations.

Primary Series (ages 6-8) is conducted in
three preparatory courses consisting of:

1) Pre - Ballet which gives a foundation in the basics of ballet

2) Pre-Tap where the fundamentals of footwork and rhythmic syncopation are emphasized and

3) Pre-African that teaches the history, culture
and social dances associated with West Africa
.

Level I, II & III Classes are for students ages 8 to 18 placed by age, prior knowledge, and experience in the style. A focus is placed on proper execution of movement, performance skills and personal growth. The classes that are offered include Tap, Modern/Jazz, Ballet, African and Hip-Hop. For maximum enjoyment and development of the body, two or more classes are recommended including at least one technique class in Ballet or Modern/Jazz.
